Medupi ACC |
GEA recently asked ARQ to act as their Professional Engineers for the approval of the Air Cooled Condenser (ACC) supporting structure, at Medupi Power Station, as required by the OSH act. This involved a review of the structure which was designed by KSI in Germany and regular workshop and site inspections to ensure compliance with the original design. ARQ was also asked to undertake a detailed review of the connection design as backup for the acceptance criteria onsite.
The ACC consists of grouped fin tube bundles mounted on A-frames supported on steel girders. Medupi has six of these units, each unit being 109m wide by 109m long and standing 55m high.
GEA wanted ARQ to develop a model that will assist in their value engineering process of similar future projects. ARQ as a result choose SOFISTIK to undertake the remodelling because of its versatility and capacity to analyses such a large structure as a complete unit.
